Literature Text

Lord,
a thousand pound beam
a thousand pound beam
a thousand pound beam
landed
upon my finger.
They have discussed amputation.
But I know that
just one kiss from You
just one kiss from You
just one kiss from You
And it will be
all better
as good as new!

Lord,
the tip of my finger
the tip of my finger
the tip of my finger
Is probably
the tiniest
member of my entire body
Yet I can’t imagine life without it.

Lord,
How great was
the cost You paid
the cost You paid
the cost You paid
For the
healing
of this helpless finger?

Lord,
I was
just like this finger
just like this finger
just like this finger
Fit only for
amputation
but You came and
made me a new creation!

Lord,
How unfathomable was
the sacrifice You made
the sacrifice You made
the sacrifice You made
In submitting to
crucifixion
for me, the littlest lamb,
As the Good Shepard, laying His life down.

Lord,
How heavy was
the weight of my sin
the weight of my sin
the weight of my sin
Which You
carried
upon Your shoulders?
You were bruised, crushed, and smitten
all for my transgressions
all for my transgressions
all for my transgressions
crucified
so that I could be One with You,
a functioning member of Your body.
I wrote this poem after Eileen texted me to tell how a thousand pound beam fell on Dan's finger at work and how it was blackened and shattered, the have the X-ray shot of his shattered finger bone, asking us to pray, and I prayed, and knew God would heal it, and wrote this poem, and the doctors literally did discuss amputating it, but then the Holy Spirit healed it and restored it completely, the bone was restored, the color was restored, and there would be no way to even tell that what happened to his finger happened without that x-ray photo to prove it.
